It did not go as planned, and that's okay.

July 24, 2018

I stared blankly at the words.

You passed the tasting part.
However, you did not pass the theory part.

I sulked into our backyard where Mitchell was mowing our lawn and my first tear rolled down my cheek. I started throwing sticks full force into the trees.

You passed the tasting part.
However, you did not pass the theory part.

Mitchell hugs me.

I’m wondering if fighting for my dreams are worth it.

I curse loudly at a mosquito on my leg.

I’m going to Houston.

Houston was already the plan before the results came but now Houston is not an option, it is the option.

I’ve been debating switching tracks from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust to the Court of Master Sommeliers for a few weeks. I’m going to Houston now for my first exam in October.

I will re-sit my WSET Level three theory exam something in the likes of January 2019.

I have no plans to continue the WSET Program from there due to financial constraint, also known as I could become a Master Sommelier for the cost of merely my next WSET exam. I will then officially be on the sommelier route.

For those of you scratching your head to what I am talking about, this diagram demonstrates where I am on the WSET track, as to where I will have to enter on the sommelier track.

I'm hoping this time in Houston will re-boost my spirits. We are really excited to visit Texas. I have never been, though Mitchell lived there for a brief time during his childhood. We would love any recommendation you might have for us. We might MegaBus over to Austin for a day as well.

To travel is to live, is it not?

Meanwhile, I am going to enjoy the rest of the rainy Tuesday over a cup of coffee and probably dive into some poetry.

And by coffee, I meant a glass of Tokaji, the wine that brought about my failure in the first point. Let this be a victory glass of wine to say, no, I will not be stumped by you twice.

Success is going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.
